MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – The Lyndon women's cross country team ran to a third place finish at the Vermont Intercollegiate Championships hosted by Middlebury College.
The Lady Hornets turned in a solid performance by placing third overall behind number one nationally ranked Middlebury (15 points), and St. Michael's College (57 points). The Hornets totaled 107 points, one point in front of fourth place rival Castleton State (108 points).
Lyndon was led by senior Nikki Brown (Franklin, Mass.) who covered the five-kilometer course in 22:37. Brown was followed by junior Allynne O'Hearn (Pelham, N.H.) with a time of 22:43, sophomore Leah Morgan (Milton, Vt.) in 23:14, Gabrielle Mathewson (Sheffield, Vt.) in 23:50, and junior captain Holly Reed (Essex, Vt.) in 23:58.
"Our goal was to place in front of Castleton, which they did," said Lyndon Head Coach Chris Ummer. "It was only by one point, but we're only going to get stronger. What an brilliant race for Nikki Brown, her hard work is paying off!"
