Waterville, ME - Northern Vermont University-Lyndon baseball player Tucker Root (Middlefield, CT) has been named the North Atlantic Conference Player of the Week for the week ending April 14th, as announced by the conference office on Tuesday. Root is the second consecutive Hornet to be named Player of the Week, following Zak Johnson (East Hampton, CT), who earned NAC honors last week.
Root, a junior designated hitter, had a big weekend at the plate for the Hornets. He went three for three with three runs batted in in the nightcap of Friday's 5-3 win over the University of Maine at Farmington, including a clutch two-run base hit which gave Lyndon the lead. He followed that up by going five for seven wiht four RBIs in Saturday's doubleheader sweep of UMF. He went two for three in a 5-3 win in Saturday's opener and followed that up with three doubles in four at bats in the 11-4 win over the Beavers in the nightcap. Root is batting .312 on the season with 14 RBIs, third on the team in both categories.

Root and the Hornets are scheduled to return to NAC play this weekend with a four game series against the University of Maine at Presque Isle. Two doubleheaders are tentatively scheduled for Friday and Saturday the Skip Pound Baseball Complex on the Lyndon campus, with first pitch at 1:00 pm each day. A final determination of locations and times will be made later in the week.
