Nashua, NH - The Northern Vermont University-Lyndon baseball team got numerous contributions from up and down the roster and defeated Rivier University, 11-6, at Holman Stadium on Thursday night. The Hornets improve to 11-17 with the win, while the Raiders fall to 7-27.
The Hornets built an 11-0 lead through six and a half innings then held off a late Rivier rally to come away with the win. 21 different Hornets saw action in the non-conference matchup. Zak Johnson (East Hampton, CT) had a big day at the plate, going three for three, including a fourth inning solo home run. Caleb Laroche (Franklin, VT) had a pair of base hits and three runs batted in. Tucker Root (Middlefield, CT) also continued to swing a hot bat, delivering a pair of doubles. Cameron Flinn's (Barre, VT) fifth inning base hit also drove in a pair of runs.
For Rivier, Tyler Jackson was two for four at the plate, with one run batted in. Brandon Thibault drew four walks and scored three runs. The Raiders only managed four hits against six different Hornet pitchers, but drew eight walks to help their cause.
James Mundy (Brentwood, NH), the second of six Hornet pitchers, picked up the win with two innings of work. Starter Jake Jourdain (Beckert, MA) threw four scoreless innings before giving way to Mundy. Rivier starter Jake Mainey was tagged for eight runs, seven earned, over four innings, and was tagged with the loss.
The Hornets will host Norwich University in a non-conference doubleheader on Monday afternoon. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 pm.
