Lyndonville, VT - Rian Hayman-Jones, a 6'4" forward from St. Johnsbury Academy in nearby St. Johnsbury, VT, has committed to the Northern Vermont University-Lyndon men's basketball program for the Fall 2018 semester. Hayman-Jones will major in Exercise Science.
Hayman-Jones helped the Hilltoppers to a 17-6 record this past season and a berth in the Vermont State Division I Final Four. He averaged 8.5 points, 7.7 rebounds, and 1.5 steals per game and was an All-Metro Division honorable mention selection. He was also selected to the Caledonian-Record Dream Dozen and to the Vermont Basketball Coaches Association Senior All-Star Game. A multi-talented student athlete, Hayman-Jones also excelled in soccer and baseball during his high school years and is an accomplished musician.
Hornet head coach David Pasiak commented "Rian brings a high level of toughness and physicality to our program. He is a very versatile player who takes pride in doing the little things, both offensively and defensively, that all teams need to do to be successful. He is a very well rounded young man and most importantly he is a very high character individual with a strong work ethic who will add a great deal to our team culture. I am extremely happy to have Rian as our first committed recruit from within Vermont."
Hayman-Jones' high school coach, David McGinn, had this to say: "Our program was very fortunate to have Rian in his senior year. He brings a physical presence and level of athleticism not often seen in Vermont. He played in a role facing the basket for the first time in his high school experience, and grew increasingly more comfortable, while exhibiting flashes of what I know is to come during his college career. I look forward to watching his continued growth as he takes on this next level of challenge."
Hayman-Jones joins Zach Falkenburg of Chittnango, NY, Luke Fredsell of Westmoreland, NY, Colby Bucknam of Brunswick, ME, Dylan Torello of Fort Pierce, FL, and Philip Lafond of South Easton, MA, in the Hornets' Fall 2018 recruiting class. The Hornets expect to announce additional commitments in the near future.
