Hornets unable to slow down NEC

Lyndonville, VT - The Northern Vermont University-Lyndon men's basketball team was defeated by 2017-18 North Atlantic Conference champion New England College 103-55 on Monday evening.  The Hornets fall to 1-2 on the season while the Pilgrims, now members of the New England Collegiate Conference, improve to 2-0 on the season.

Ricky Leonard paced the Pilgrims with 22 points and Izaiah Winston-Brooks added 17.  Jason Jones pulled down 11 rebounds for NEC.  Damon Denteh (Jamaica, NY) was Lyndon's only double figure scorer with 12 points.  Jahleel Gabriel (Springfield, MA) pulled down a game high 13 rebounds.

Cold shooting and turnovers spelled trouble for the Hornets.  Lyndon gave the ball away 33 times, compared to only 16 for NEC.  The Pilgrims shot 44.7% from the floor while limiting the Hornets to only 30.3% shooting, including only 21.4% from behind the arc.

The Hornets will play NCAA Division I University of Vermont in an exhibition game on Wednesday.  Tip-off from Patrick Gym in Burlington will be 7:00 pm.  The game will be nationally televised on ESPN+.
