Hornet men unable to sustain fast start in loss to Cazenovia

Cazenovia, NY - The Northern Vermont University-Lyndon men's basketball team jumped out to a ten point advantage at the start of Sunday's non-conference contest at Cazenovia College.  Unfortunately for the Hornets, they were unable to sustain it, as the host Wildcats shot a blistering 61.2% from the floor and came away with a 104-74 victory.  With the loss Lyndon falls to 2-11 on the season, while Cazenovia improves to 5-6.

When Zach Falkenburg (Kirkville, NY) connected on his second three-pointer the Hornets found themselves with a 17-7 lead just over five minutes into the contest.  Lyndon still led by one, 28-27, following a CJ Jimmy (Modesto, CA) putback with 9:04 to go in the half.  The Wildcats closeed the half on a 16-0 run over the final 4:45, however, and took a 51-34 lead into the locker room.  Lyndon never threatened in the second half as the Wildcats pulled away for the win.

Majesty Wilder led a balanced Cazenovia attack with 15 points.  Raishun Richardson and Blake Bagozzi added 14 points each and Nicholas Filippi chipped in 13.  Falkenburg led the Hornets with 13 points, 12 coming in the opening half.  Damon Denteh (Jamaica, NY) added 12, and Corey Frost (East Hamden, CT) also reached double figures with 11.  Ricky Shuford (Prattville, AL) scored nine points and grabbed a game high nine rebounds.

The Hornets will complete their Upstate New York swing on Monday when they face SUNY Delhi.  Tip off is set for 2:00 pm.
