Franklin, MA - Dean College scored three times in the first 28 minutes and made it stand up in posting a 3-1 victory over the Northern Vermont University-Lyndon men's soccer team on Wednesday afternoon. The Bulldogs improve to 1-3 on the season while the Hornets remain winless in five starts.
Paulo Corriea, Davonn Smith, and Caleb Kauffman each notched early goals in staking Dean to the advantage. The Hornets got on the scoreboard in the 37th minute when Nolan Matthews (Massapequa, NY) scored off of an assist from Sergei Ivanovich-Radchenko (Krasnador, Russia). That was all of the scoring, however, as neither team was able to find the back of the net in the second half.
Dean outshot the Hornets 20-10 and held a 10-5 advantage in corner kicks. Caleb Derbyshire (Barton, VT) made 11 saves in goal for the Hornets, while Devin Moore made four stops for the Bulldogs.
Lyndon returns to action on Saturday afternoon when Thomas College comes to Varsity Field for the home opener. The contest will also be the North Atlantic Conference opener for both teams. Kickoff is set for 3:30 pm.
