Henniker, NH - The Northern Vermont University-Lyndon men's soccer team came up on the short end of a 4-1 score at New England College on Monday evening. The Hornets fall to 1-7 with the loss, while the Pilgrims improve to 4-3-1.
NEC got on the scoreboard 20 minutes into the game when Cooper Valinski scored on a penalty kick. Goals from Owen Lloyd and Badran Saeed sent the Pilgrims into halftime with a 3-0 advantage.
Valinski took a pass from Lloyd and deposited it in the net in the 57th minute, making the score 4-0, NEC. Sam Ognenoff (Brattleboro, VT) got the Hornets on the scoreboard in the 77th minute when he tucked a free kick off the left post and into the net.
NEC outshot Lyndon 40-8 and earned seven corner kicks, compared to only two for the Hornets. Caleb Derbyshire (Barton, VT) made 11 saves in goal for Lyndon and was saddled with the loss. Robbie Ferguson only faced three shots on goal, saving two, in picking up the win.
The Hornets return to North Atlantic Conference play on Saturday when they travel to Castine, ME, to take on Maine Maritime Academy. The game will kick off at 6:30 pm.
