LYNDON CENTER, Vt. - Lyndon State ended its 2009 season on a high note, defeating in-state rival Green Mountain College by a score of 6-3.
Lyndon's John Kennedy (Londonderry, N.H.) and Brad Darby (Sanford, Maine) won the No. 1 doubles match over Brett Dugan and Tibursious Ssenduwula 8-2 and the tandem of Paul Thibault (Westfield, Mass.) and Jeremiah Powell (Concord, Vt.) gave the Hornets a 2-0 lead with a 8-1 victory over Kevin Hart and Kyle O'Boyle. In No. 3 doubles, the Eagles earned their first win of the day as Mark Lundeen and Kyle Watt topped Chris Hammett (Brunswick, Maine) and Jimmy Gaskell (Washington, N.H.) 8-4.
In singles action, Kennedy beat Dugan in the No. 1 position 6-1, 6-3 and Darby blanked O'Boyle 6-0, 6-0 in No. 2 singles. After Lyndon forfieted the No. 3 singles match, Thibault sealed the victory with 6-3, 6-1 win over Hart. Lundeen topped Powell 6-3, 6-2 in No. 5 singles and Hammett beat Watt in the No. 6 singles match 7-6, 6-0.
