Hornet men's tennis set to open play this weekend

Lyndonville, VT - The Northern Vermont University-Lyndon men's tennis team is hoping to build to competitiveness as they prepare to open the 2019 season.  Laura Laramee returns for her eighth season as Hornet head coach.  Lyndon looks to improve on a 2018 campaign which saw them go winless in 11 conference matches, including five North Atlantic Conference matchups.

Junior Neal Mulligan (Marshfield, VT) is Lyndon's top returning player.  Mulligan, a 2nd Team All-Conference selection in 2018, compiled a team best 4-6 record at second singles a year ago, including a 2-3 mark in NAC play.  He also played first doubles all season, and is expected to compete in the championship flight in both singles and doubles this year.

Laramee is optiistic about the upcoming season.  "I have another building year with a young energetic team.  I have Neal Mulligan as a lead returning player.  I Also have a lot of athletes that are looking very promising and anxious to raise there game."

The Hornets have been picked to finish fourth in the NAC this season, according to the conference pre-season poll which was released today.  Thomas College was the unanimous choice to capture conference honors.  The predicted order of finish is as follows:

1.  Thomas College
T2.  Northern Vermont University-Johnson
T2.  SUNY Delhi
4.  Northern Vermont University-Lyndon
5.  Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts.
