Hornet men's tennis drops season opener to Castleton

Rutland, VT - The Northern Vermont University-Lyndon men's tennis team opened their 2019 season with a match against Castleton University at the Grand Slam Tennis Center on Saturday afternoon.  Unfortunately for the Hornets, the host Spartans swept the mantch, 9-0, and improved to 1-2 on their season.

The Lyndon second doubles team of Mukhtar Sheikh Abdullahi (Mogadishu, Somalia) and Kyle Leighton (Burrillville, RI) lost a very competitive second doubles match to the Castleton team of Levi Williams and Tripp Norris 8-5.  Castleton captured first and third doubles by 8-0 margins.

Lyndon only won two games in singles play.  Jeremy Polonia (Lynn, MA), fell to Castleton's Nate Hinson 6-0, 6-1 at second singles.  Abukar Hassan (Kenya) was defeated by Spencer Bulter 6-0, 6-1 at fifth singles.  The Hornets dropped the other four flights by 6-0, 6-0 scores.

The Hornets will return to the courts on March 19th, when they travel to NCAA Division II St. Michael's College.  Play is scheduled to begin at 3:30 pm.
