Fitchburg, MA - Senior distance runner Matt Francis (Freeport, ME) broke his own school record in the 3,000 Meter Steeplechase to highlight Northern Vermont University-Lyndon's performance at the Jim Sheehan Memorial Track & Field Invitational today at Fitchburg State University. The Hornet men finished tied for 18th as a team. Bridgewater State University took the team title with 164 points, nearly double that of runner-up University of New Haven.
Francis broke his own Steeplechase record by almost 30 seconds, finishing in sixth place with a time of 11:12.24.
Joshua Guyer (Lyndonville, VT) broke his own school record in the 100 Meter Dash with a time of 11.78, good for 11th place.
Robert Denton III (Providence, RI) competed in the Javelin, Discus, and Shot Put. He recorded marks of 29.77 (29th Place), 21.92 (47th Place), and 8.07 (37th Place) meters respectively.
Hornet head coach Hayden Bunnell was please with today's progress. "Matt looked really strong today in the Steeplechase and I definitely think we will be under 11 minutes by the end of the season. Josh ran a good race in the 100 in spite of the wind, and we are looking for Rob to put everything together and eventually we will see personal bests from him."
Next Saturday the Hornets will compete at the Penmen Relays, hosted by Southern New Hampshire University.
