Kevin Desmond sets school record in triple jump at Penmen Relays

Manchester, NH - The Northern Vermont University-Lyndon men's track and field team competed at the Southern New Hampshire University Penmen Relays on Saturday.  Eastern Connecticut State Universithy edged out Worcester State University by three points to take the meet championship.

Kevin Desmond (Colchester, VT) broke the school record in the Triple Jump with a mark of 12.38 meters, finishing in 10th place.  He also competed in the Long Jump and the 100 Meter Dash with a mark of 5.77 meters and a time of 12.66 seconds, finishing in 20th and 53rd place respectively.

Matt Francis (Freeport, ME) ran in the Unseeded 5,000 Meter Steeplechase.  He finished in 21st place with a time of 18:35.37.

Robert Denton III (Prividence, RI) competed in the Javelin and Discus throws, finishing in 31st and 56th place.  He had marks of 36.94 and 20.95 meters respectively.  His Javelin throw was a personal best by almost two meters.

Hornet head coach Hayden Bunnell was very happy with the performances.  "Kevin had a great day at Triple Jump and we hope to keep building towards the New England qualifying mark of 12.95 meters.  Matt almost had a personal best today in the 5k today, and Rob's almost 2 meter personal best was a huge step for him."

The Hornets will compete at the Trinity College Invitational next Saturday.  The meet is scheduled to begin at 10:00 am.
