Hartford, CT - The Northern Vermont University-Lyndon Men's Track & Field Team competed at the Trinity College Invitational in Hartford, Connecticut on Saturday. There was no team scoring at the meet.
Robert Denton III (Providence, RI) broke his own school record in the Discus with a mark of 29.58 meters, almost 3 meters from his previous best of 26.83 meters. He finished in fith place. Denton also competed in Javelin and Shot Put, posting marks of 30.57 and 8.12 meters and finishing in seventh and second place respectively.
Kevin Desmond (Colchester, VT) finished second in Triple Jump with a mark of 11.94 meters. He also competed in the Long Jump, recording a mark of 5.20 meters which was also good for second place. He also finished seventh in the 100 meter dash, clocking a new personal best time of 12.45.
Matt Francis (Freeport, ME) got a personal best in the 5,000 meters with a time of 18:26.36, good for fourth place.
Hornet head coach Hayden Bunnell is encouraged heading into the North Atlantic Conference Championships. "It was not good conditions with the rain and wind, which we saw some struggles in the jumps and throws, but Kevin almost won the Triple Jump and Rob and Matt's personal bests in the Discus and the 5,000 meters help end the day on a good note, and we hope to perform at our best next week at the NAC Championships."
The Hornets will compete in the North Atlantic Conference Championships next weekend. The meet will be a combined meet with the Great Northeast Athletic Conference and the New England Collegiate Conference, and will be hosted by Regis College. The meet will begin on Saturday afternoon at 3:00 pm and will continue on Sunday at 10:00 am.
