Kevin Desmond places in the triple jump at NAC Championships

Weston, MA - Sophomore triple jumper Kevin Desmond (Colchester, VT) finished sixth in the triple jump at the North Atlantic Conference and Inter-Conference Championship Meet held at Regis College this weekend.  Overall meet champions were crowned, as were champions within the NAC, Great Northeast Athletic Conference, and New England Collegiate Conference.  The Hornets finished seventh in the NAC and tied for 15th overall.  SUNY Delhi captured both the NAC and overall championships.

Desmond matched his school record with a mark of 12.38 meters in the triple jump.  Al five of the jumpers that finishe ahead of him were NAC athletes, thus he ended up with the same finish for both conference and overall.  He also had a mark of 5.56 meters in the long jump, good for 20th overall and 12th in the conference.

Matt Francis (Freeport, ME) competed in the 3,000 meter steeplechase and the 5,000 meter run.  In steeplechase, he clocked a time of 11:17.76 (11th overall, eighth NAC) and in the 5,000 he finished in 18:49.60 (25th overall, 12th NAC).

Robert Denton III (Providence, RI) competed in the throwing events.  His marks were 8.08 meters in shot put (39th overall, 15th NAC), 27.01 meters in discus (23rd overall, 10th NAC), and 29.70 meters in javelin (26th overall, 10th NAC).

Hornet head coach Hayden Bunnell was pleased with the performances.  "It was an overall good weekend for the men's team.  I wished we could squeeze in more points and see personal bests, but I thought we competed well overall.  It was nice to see Matt and Rob to finish on a good note for their track & field careers, and have Kevin give us one point for the meet.  We hope to build off of this for next year."
