Belfast, ME - The Northern Vermont University-Lyndon men's cross country team put all four runners in the top 25 places and two in the top six at Saturday's Mariner Invitational, hosted by Maine Maritime Academy and held at Troy Howard Middle School in Belfast, ME.. Leading the way for the Hornets was freshman standout Anthony Pifari (Littleton, NH), who finished in third place overall (60 total runners) in a time of 16:58 over the 5K course. Pifari was followed by senior Benjamin Cornell (Burriville, RI) , who finished in sixth place in 17:24. Senior Matt Francis (Freeport, ME) and freshman Alexander Frei (Georgia, VT) cruised the course in 19:40 and 20:04 respectively.
"Despite running incomplete today the men show lots of promise for the rest of the season." said Hornet Head Coach Ummer. "There's a long way to go before the conference meet on October 28th and I'm confiendent we can be competitive with the top teams by then. Anthony, running in only his second collegiate race, continues to improve and clearly can be a factor in this year's title race. Ben is in his best early season form and will only get stronger."
The Hornets will next be in action on September 15th when they compete at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational in Dartmouth, MA.
