Springfield, MA - The Northern Vermont Unversity-Lyndon men's cross country team competed at the Western New England University Invitational on Saturday morning. Freshman standout Anthony Pifari (Littleton, NH) led the way for the Hornets with a 12th place finish (134 runners) in a time of 27:21 over the soggy 8K course. Pifari was followed by junior Benjamin Cornell (Burrilville, RI) in 29th place in a time of 28:49. Other scorers for Lyndon were Matt Francis (Freeport, ME) in 30:31, Zak Johnson (East Hampton, CT) in 33:27, and Matt Tritto (Derry, NH) in 41:34. The Hornets took ninth place out of 14 teams in the field.
"It was nice to see the solid efforts out of the team members as most have had some time illness the last week or so," said Hornet Head Coach Chris Ummer. "Pifari, Johnson, and Tritto each had personal best 8K races and continue to get stronger each week."
The Hornets will compete at the North Atlantic Conference Championships at Troy Howard Middle School in Belfast, ME on October 28th. The men's 8K championship race will go off at 12:00 noon.
