Belfast, ME - Anthony Pifari (Littleton, NH), Benjamin Cornell (Burrillville, RI), and Matt Francis (Freeport, ME) all logged top ten finishes in leading the Northern Vermont University-Lyndon men's cross country team to a fourth place finish in Saturday's North Atlantic Conference Championship race, held at the Troy Howard Middle School. Husson University captured the team championship of the eight team field. Jarrod Ottman of Thomas College captured individual honors.
Pifari completed the slick 8K course in 27:36.90, good for second place and just ten seconds behind Ottman. Cornell finished in fourth place with a time of 28:34.40 and Francis finished in ninth place with a time of 29:51.40. The Hornets' other scoring runners were Alexander Frei (Georgia, VT) and Zak Johnson (East Hampton, CT), who finished in 40th and 46th place with times of 34:11.00 and 36:23.00 respectively.
Lyndon assistant coach Hayden Bunnell commented "The Men's team ran well overall today in rainy slicked conditions. Our top 3 ran excellent, with Anthony in his first year running cross country, he tried hard today and finished well today and I cannot wait for what the future holds for him in the next NAC Championships to come. Ben ran well today and put it all out there and was close to the top 3, and Matt exceeded expectations by getting in the top 10. The rest of the team also put it all out there, but we were not strong enough to keep up with top 3 teams because their 4 and 5 runners were stronger today. Other than that, it was a good day for the Men's team."
The Hornets will compete next in the NCAA Division III New England Regional Championships on November 10th. Bowdoin College will host the race, which is set to begin at 12:30 pm.
