Hornet men run well at NCAA New England Regional

Brunswick, ME - The Northern Vermont University-Lyndon men's cross country team took 46th place out of 58 full teams at the NCAA Division III New England Regional Championships hosted by Bowdoin College on Saturday morning.

The Hornets were led by 2018 North Atlantic Conference Rookie of the Year Anthony Pifari (Littleton, NH) who covered the wet and muddy 8K course in 27:32.  Pifari, 135th of 399 runners, was followed by senior Benjamin Cornell (Burrilville, RI) with a 172nd place finish in a time of 28:20.  Cornell was followed by fellow senior Matt Francis (Freeport, ME).  Freshman Alexander Frei (Georgia, VT) and senior Zak Johnson (East Hampton, CT) completed the scoring for the Hornets.

Amherst College won the regional meet, placing five runners in the top 20 places.  Sam Brunnette of Plymouth State University took individual honors.

"All things considered, the weather and the conditions, the men ran well," said Lyndon Head Coach Chris Ummer.  "Both Alex (33:31) and Zak (34:39) ran personal records for the 8K and did so under less than ideal conditions.  Anthony continued to show what the future holds for the next few years to come and both Ben and Matt put in solid efforts."
