Lyndon swept by Husson

BANGOR, Maine - Husson's swept a North Atlantic Conference doubleheader from the Lyndon Saturday afternoon at O' Keefe Field winning the first game, 9-1 in five innings, and the second one 8-0 also in five innings.

Game One: Husson 9 Lyndon St. 1 - 5 innings:

The Hornets would strike first as Katie Davis (North Haverhill, N.H.) led off the top of second inning with a solo homerun to left field, but the Eagles would answer right back in the bottom half of inning with a Nicole Andrade RBI single to center field tying the game at one a piece.

Kayla Merrill held Lyndon scoreless in the top of the third with the help of her teammates after she walked Jula McNeil (Lowell, Mass.) to lead off the inning and a Shelby Sheridan (Enosburg Falls, Vt.) single to right field that advanced McNeil to second. The very next batter, Kiya DeWitt (Pittsburg, N.H.) hit a groundball to Husson's shortstop Lyndsay Merrill and she would tag out McNeil for the first out of the inning.

With runners on first and second Dakota Crane (Central, S.C.) hit a single to left field that would send Sheridan to home plate but Allie Hill came up throwing a bullet to Casey Lopes who would tag out Sheridan at home for the second out of the inning and Taylor Young (Lowell, Mass.) ended the Hornets threat when she groundout to L. Merrill for the third and final out of the inning.

Husson wouldn't look back as they added two more runs in the bottom of the third on RBI singles by Lopes and Colpitts to make the score 3-1.

The Eagles extended their lead to 9-1 in the bottom of the fourth on a RBI double from Kayla Merrill, a RBI fielder's choice from Hill, a two run triple from Lyndsay Merrill, a RBI single from Lopes and a sacrifice fly from Haley Spiers.

Kayla Merrill went the distance to pick up her 10th win of season, allowing one earned run on six hits with two walks and striking out four. Davis pitched four innings, allowing 9 earned runs on 12 hits with two strikeouts and one walk.

Lopes, L. Merrill, Andrade and Sami Schultz all had two hits for the Eagles in game one.

Game Two: Husson 8 Lyndon St. 0 - 5 innings

The Eagles got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the second on Spiers' second career homerun and her first since 2013 when she smashed a Davis pitch over the left field fence.  
Husson added another run on a RBI double to left by Colpitts in the third. K. Merrill extended the lead to three on a RBI single in the fourth.

The Eagles would finish off the swept in the bottom of the 5th on a RBI single from Spiers, a two run single by Chelsea Brennan, an interference call which resulted into Spiers scoring Husson's 7th run of the game and a RBI single by Kayla Merrill which was her 140th career hit.

Colpitts pitched five innings, faced only 16 batters and striking out one Taking the loss was Davis who pitched 4.2 innings, allowing 8 earned runs on 15 hits, walking none and striking out 4.

Lopes and Spiers each had two hits and Kayla Merrill had three hits for the Eagles in game two.

The Hornets will host the Owls of University of Maine at Presque Isle Sunday for two games starting at 2pm.
