Hornet softball unable to get bats going in losses to SUNY Canton

Canton, NY - The Northern Vermont University-Lyndon softball team could only muster up four hits in Saturday's doubleheader at SUNY Canton.  As a result, the Roos swept the North Atlantic Conference doubleheader, taking the opener 11-1 and the nightcap 20-1.  Canton is now 10-14 overall and 3-3 in the NAC, while Lyndon is winless in four conference games and 14 games overall.

Game 1 - SUNY Canton 11, NVU-Lyndon 1

The Roos put 11 runs on the scoreboard in the bottom of the first inning.  Jordan Knapp had three hits and two RBIs to lead the Canton attack, as the Roos produced 14 hits in total.  Kayla Chavarri threw four shutout innings, yielding only one hit and striking out four, to pick up the win.

Cecilia Chamul's (Concord, VT) fifth inning double and a pair of singles from Emma Corey (Concord, VT) and Madeline DeGroot (Canton, ME) were Lyndon's only hits.  Amber Roberts (Berlin, NH) settled down after the first inning and kept the Roos off of the scoreboard the rest of the game.

Game 2 - SUNY Canton 20, NVU-Lyndon 1

Emma Moore (Hillsborough, NH) delivered an RBI single in the top of the first inning to give the Hornets the lead.  Unfortunatley for Lyndon, that was their only hit of the game, as Canton plated 11 runs in the bottom half of the inning and cruised to the win.

Alaina Beane went the distance to pick up the win for the Roos.  Canton pounded out 11 hits, with Valarie Clark the hitting star.  Clark was four for four at the plate with four RBIs and three runs batted in.  Mackenzie Currie and Selena Tasli also had three hits in the game.

The Hornets will travel to the University of Maine at Farmington on Tuesday for another NAC doubleheader.  First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 pm
