Lyndonville, VT - The Northern Vermont University-Lyndon softball team played on their home field at the Skip Pound Softball Complex on Friday afternoon. Unfortunately for the Hornets, it was visiting Husson University that found things to their liking, pounding out three home runs and 34 total hits in sweeping the North Atlantic Conference doubleheader, 19-3 and 20-0. The Eagles improve to 16-8 on the season and 7-1 in NAC play, while the Hornets fall to 2-16 overall and 0-6 in conference play.
Game 1 - Husson 19, NVU-Lyndon 3
The Eagles put four runs on the board in each of the first two innings and broke the game open with a ten run fourth. Olivia Smith went three for three with a home run, a double, and six runs batted in for the Eagles. Kylie Kennedy homered, drove in five runs, and scored three times and Whitney Bess was four for four at the plate, scoring three runs. Alyssa Prest got the win and struck out seven in three innings of work.
Cecilia Chamul (Concord, VT) had a triple and scored a run for Lyndon. Emma Corey (Concord, VT) and Madeline DeGroot (Canton, ME) both had RBI base hits for the Hornets. Emma Moore (Hillsborough, NH) started in the circle and took the loss.
Game 2 - Husson 20, NVU-Lyndon 0
The Hornets could only muster a pair of Meghan Campo (Essex Junction, VT) singles against Husson pitcher Jen Jones. Jones also homered, one of five extra base hits by the Eagles. Katie Windsor was four for five at the plate for the Eagles, who took control right out of the gate with a nine run top of the first inning. Amber Roberts (Berlin, NH) went the distance for Lyndon and took the loss.
The Hornets will travel to NVU-Johnson for a non-conference doubleheader on Tuesday. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 pm.
