Hornets Fly by Eagles

LYNDON CENTER, Vt. – In North Atlantic Conference play Thursday night, the Lyndon State College women's basketball team grasped a 76-28 victory over Green Mountain College.

The Hornets had four players in double digits.  Mikayla Hodge (Newbury, Vt.) led with 20 points and 13 rebounds for her fifth double-double of the season.  Gabrielle Foy (Wilton, Maine) pitched in 13 points along with Alissa Mitchell's (Milton, N.H.) 11 and Alexis Britch's (Essex Junction, Vt.) 10.

Laney Trammell (North Fort Myers, Fla.) recorded eight points along with five rebounds for the Eagles. Mercedes Rideout (Nashville, Tenn.) collected six points and four rebounds.

The Hornets started out the game on a 7-0 run on the back of Hodge and Foy.  At the 5:45 mark, Rachel Moore (Sharon, Vt.) got the lone two pointer for the Eagles.  The Hornets finished out the first with 21 straight points, leading 28-2. 

Faith Richard (Acushnet, Mass.) and Britch hit a pair of treys to get things going in the second stanza before Moses answered with a trey of her own.  The Hornets then outscored the Eagles 15-10 over the remainder of the quarter.  The Hornets held the 49-15 advantage going into the second half.

In the first five minutes of the third quarter, the Eagles pulled together eight points to the Hornets six.  However, the Hornets then held them scoreless for the remainder of the third as they collected seven straight.

With the score 62-23 at the start of the fourth, the Hornets went on to outscore the Eagles 14-5 in the period to grasp their first 76-28 North Atlantic Conference win of the season.

Lyndon (3-3, 1-1 NAC) travels to Castleton University on Saturday with a 3:00 p.m. tip.

Green Mountain (0-6, 0-4 NAC) hosts Johnson State at 3:00 p.m.
