LYNDONVILLE, Vt. – The Lyndon State College women's basketball team's strong start was not enough to carry them through the second half as Husson University grabbed the 75-43 North Atlantic Conference victory Friday night in Stannard Gymnasium.
Gabrielle Foy (Wilton, Maine) paved the way for the Hornets with 16 points and nine rebounds along with Faith Richard's (Acushnet, Mass.) eight points and four rebounds and Mariah Ramos's (Lebanon, N.H.) seven points and seven rebounds.
Chandler Guerrette (Presque Isle, Maine) had 17 points, nine rebounds, and five steals. Darla Morales (Oxnard, Calif.) added 16 points of her own.
The Hornets quickly got on the board after a layup from Foy but the Eagles answered on the next play. Three consecutive treys by Foy and Richard powered the Hornets ahead 11-2. After the teams swapped baskets, a three from Ramos finished off the first quarter 18-6 in favor of the Hornets.
The Eagles chipped away at the Hornet's fourteen point lead, tying up the game 20-20 at the 5:28 mark in the second quarter. Three more points put the Eagles up 23-20, but Foy drained a jumper, bringing the Hornets within one, 23-22. After trading baskets, the Eagles finished the first half up 28-24.
The Hornets lost momentum in the second half as the Eagles used full court pressure to disrupt the offense while outscoring the hosts 47-19. The Eagles grasped the 75-43 victory.
Lyndon (7-12, 4-9 NAC) hosts Maine Maritime Academy Saturday, February 4th with a 3:00 p.m. tip.
Husson (17-1, 13-0 NAC) travels to Johnson to finish off their weekend at the same date and time.
