Henniker, NH - The Lyndon State College women's basketball team dropped a 65-56 North Atlantic Conference game at New England College on Tuesday evening. The loss drops the Hornets to 10-7 overall and 6-4 in NAC play, while the Pilgrims improve to 9-7 overall and 5-5 in conference.
NEC maintained a slim lead throughout much of the contest, as they were up two after the first quarter, and four after the second and third quarters. Anoushka Boatswain (East Orange, NJ) converted a pair of free throws 1:52 into the final quarter to put the Pilgrims ahead 47-41, and the Hornets were never able to get back within one possession the rest of the way.
Rene Hudson (Gallatin, TN) topped four double figure scorers for NEC, finishing with 18 points and adding nine rebounds. Lanesha Hawkins (Kittrell, NC) and Kourtney Elmore (Concord, NC) both scored 11 points off the bench for the Pilgrims, while Jada Black posted a double double with 10 points and 11 rebounds. Mikayla Hodge (Newbury, VT) scored a game high 25 points and pulled down 13 rebounds to lead the Hornets. Ashley Celley (Cabot, VT) was Lyndon's only other double figure scorer, as she finished with 10 points.
Both teams struggled to shoot the ball most of the evening. The Hornets only connected on 17 of 63 field goal attempts (27.0%) and the Pilgrims didn't fare much better, making only 23 of 70 shots (32.9%). NEC held a 55-42 rebounding advantage and forced 17 Hornet turnovers while turning it over 13 times themselves.
Lyndon will travel to Johnson State College for a 1:00 pm tip-off on Saturday. NEC will travel to the University of Maine at Farmington on Friday.
