Lyndonville, VT - The Northern Vermont University-Lyndon women's basketball team opened North Atlantic Conference play by hosting Husson University on Friday evening. Unfortunately for the Hornets, the Eagles jumped in front in the opening quarter and never looked back, posting a 72-45 win. Husson improves to 2-2 on the season while Lyndon falls to 2-3.
The Eagles moved in front by eight after the first quarter and extended the advantage to 37-15 at the half and 57-27 after three. Husson capitalized on cold shooting from the Hornets, as Lyndon only converted 14 of 56 (25.0%) field goal attempts and only four of 23 from behind the three-point arc. Husson made 29 of 67 attempts, including five of 15 from distance. The Eagles also owned a 47-35 rebounding advantage.
Sami Ireland scored 15 points and grabbed a game high six rebounds to lead the Eagles. Logan Huckins added 13 points and Kenzie Worcester chipped in 11 for the guests. Victoria Carlson (East Haven, CT) was Lyndon's only double figure scorer with ten points. Alissa Mitchell (Milton, NH) and Lauren Young (Danville, VT) each scored nine points, with Mitchell also credited with four blocked shots.
The Hornets return to action on Saturday afternoon when they host Maine Maritime Academy. Tip-off is at 3:00 pm in Stannard Gymnasium.
