Hornet women unable to keep up with Norwich in non-conference loss

Northfield, VT - The Lyndon State College women's lacrosse team traveled to Norwich University on Monday afternoon and came up on the short end of a 20-3 result.  The loss dropped the Hornets to 2-4 on the season while the Cadets improved to 5-4.

Norwich jumped on the Hornets right from the start, scoring nine unanswered goals in the first 11:31 of the contest.  Meaghan McGrath (Barre, VT) scored all three of her goals during the opening run, while Kathryn Albretsen (Cotuit, MA) and Jordan Lutz (Hamburg, NJ) tallied twice each.

Mikayla Hodge (Newbury, VT) got the Hornets on the scoreboard with an unassisted goal at 17:51 of the opening half, but Norwich responded with four more goals to build a commanding 13-1 advantage.  Taylor Cavaliero (Somers, NY) converted a free position shot for Lyndon's second goal, but the Cadets' Kathryn Preul (Scottsdale, AZ) notched her third goal of the game with 1:35 to go in the half to send the hosts to the halftime break with a 14-2 lead.

Norwich continued to control play in the opening minutes of the second half, as they found the net four more times in the first ten minutes.  Lutz completed her hat trick 1:28 in, then Ariana Lacombe (Groton, MA) scored back to back goals to highlight the run.  Hodge scored her second goal, and Lyndon's third, of the contest with 13:50 remaining, but the Cadets closed things out with a pair of goals, including Albertsen's fourth, to account for the final score.

Norwich outshot the Hornets 27-14, and held a 15-9 advantage in draw controls.  Lyndon committed 18 turnovers, while Norwich turned the ball over 22 times.  Janice Bolton (Stow, MA) and Katie Bishop-Manning (New York, NY) split duties in goal for Norwich and combined to make eight saves.  Paige Daley (Pleasant Valley, NY) went the distance in goal for the Hornets and made three saves.

The Hornets will travel to Becker College for a 5:00 pm face off on Wednesday.  Norwich will travle to Simmons College tomorrow.
