Hornet women's lacrosse can't get anything going against UMaine-Farmington

Waterville, ME - The University of Maine at Farmington scored 11 times in the game's forst 19 minutes and went on to post an 18-1 win over Northern Vermont University-Lyndon in women's lacrosse Saturday evening.  The game, which was played at Thomas College, was a non-conference matchup.  The two teams will meet again at Lyndon in a North Atlantic Conference matchup.  Today's win was UMaine-Farmington's first in five contests, while Lyndon remains winless in three games.

Kaya Backman scored five goals on six shots to lead the Beavers.  Azure Illiano and Keilly Lynch added three goals apiece for UMaine-Farmington.  Felisha Olmstead (St. Johnsbury, VT) scored Lyndon's only goal when she converted a free position shot with 5:55 to go in the game.

UMF outshot Lyndon 34-5 for the game.  The Beavers controlled 17 of 21 draws, and won 29 ground balls compared to 15 for the Hornets.  Heather Boland and Lydia Wasina each played a half in goal for the Beavers and combined for three saves.  Zoe Pierce-Olhson (Gales Ferry, CT) went the distance in goal for the Hornets and made six saves.

The Hornets will conclude their Maine trip with a 12:00 noon start at Maine Maritime Academy on Sunday.
