Hornets slip by Mountaineers for first victory

LYNDON CENTER, Vt. — Lyndon rebounded from a tough overtime loss Saturday to earn a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Southern Vermont Sunday in the final round of the Norwich Women's Classic.

Katy Ebner (East Hampstead, N.H.) teed up a shot from the top of the 18-yard box and drilled a shot past Mountaineer goalkeeper Melissa Mascari for the lone goal of the game. Lyndon outshot Southern Vermont 24-2 and held a 5-1 advantage in corner kicks.

Mascari made nine saves in the contest while Hornet netminder Julianna Anderson (Manchester, N.H.) stopped one shot to earned the first win and shut out of her collegiate career.

Lyndon (1-1) returns to the field Thursday when it travels to Holyoke, Mass. to face Mount Holyoke College. Game time is 6 p.m.
