Lyndon hands Rivier its first loss

NASHUA, N.H. - The Lyndon women's soccer team knocked Rivier University from the ranks of the unbeaten, topping the tournament 1-0 in the final round of the Raider Classic. With the win, the Hornets improve to 3-2 in the season while Rivier drops to 3-1.

Lyndon's Aitanna Greenwood (Salt Lake City, Utah) netted her second goal of the season in the 62nd minute to provide the Hornets with the win. Greenwood was able to take a failed clear attempt and dribble to the left side of the box where she was able to lift the ball over the outstretched arms of Rivier goalkeeper Lauren Goodspeed.

Goodspeed made six saves for the Raiders while her counterpart Marley Harmon (Buxton, Maine) stopped all five shots she saw for her second consecutive shutout.

On Saturday, Lyndon advanced to the final with a 2-0 win over Newbury College. Greenwood scored the game-winning goal at 36:33 of the first half off an assist from Erika Lind (Yarmouth Port, Mass.) and Makayla Lyndes (Lyndonville, Vt.) added an unassisted insurance goal with less than four minutes left to play to seal the victory.

Harmon stopped two shots to record the shutout and Lyndon held a 38-3 advantage in shot in the game.

Lyndon will host Saint Michael's on Wednesday at 4pm in their home opener.
