LYNDON CENTER, Vt. — Coming of a loss in its home opener, the Lyndon women's soccer team managed to right the ship and record a 1-0 victory over Visiting Mitchell College Sunday ta the Lyndon Athletics field.
"We did a good job of recovering from a tough loss to St. Michael's, said Hornet Head Coach Sean Bliss. "We got organized, played well and came up with a win."
Sarah Cornell (lyndonville, Vt.) headed home the lone goal of the contest at 69:31 off a corner kick from Katy Ebner (East Hampstead, N.H.). Lyndon had several solid opportunities to score but could not find the net behind Mariner goalkeeper Katie McBride. The Hornet held a 20-10 advantage in shots in the game and McBride collected 10 in 90 minutes of play.
"Scoring chances come and go," said Bliss. "As long as they keep coming we'll begin to put a few of them away."
Julianna Anderson (Manchester, N.H.) made five saves to register her second shutout of the season. Lyndon will now prepare for the start of the North Atlantic Conference season which gets underway Saturday with a road game at arch-rival Castleton.
"We're still a little banged up, but we're getting better," said Bliss. "Once we get everybody back in a few days and come together as a team before the conference schedule, we should be good to go. If we can be organized defensively and communicate effectively as a team, we will be competitive."
