LYNDON CENTER, Vt. – The Lyndon State College women's soccer bounced back after a tough loss in their season opener with a 13-0 win over College of St. Joseph (Vt.) Saturday afternoon at the Varsity Athletic Field. The win marked head coach Morgan Crespo's first win at the helm of the Hornet squad.
Senior Shelby Sheridan led the charge with four goals and one assist while Sarah Gerry added a trio of goals and two assists. Victoria Carlson notched the first two goals of her career to go along with one assist.
The Hornets struck in just the fourth minute as Gerry intercepted a goal kick, found Sheridan in the middle of the box for a one-timer that went off the hand of keeper Florence Tavares and into the net. Less than two minutes later, the Carlson and Sheridan moved the ball beautifully up the middle of the field to Gerry who knocked the ball past the charging Tavares to take an early 2-0 lead.
Lyndon continued the barrage of shots as Gerry picked up her second goal in the 15th minute and Carlson scoring her first career goal just 48 seconds later, finishing off a rebound of her own shot. Marley Harmon (Buxton, Maine), Larissa Gemberling (Mechanicsburg, Penn.), Makayla Epps (Foxboro, Mass.) each notched a goal in the first half while Carlson tallied her second just before halftime.
The second half saw five more goals as Gerry added her third goal, Sheridan netted three, and Paige Martin (Bath, N.H.) notched her first goal in a Hornet uniform.
Johanna Sargent (West Brookfield, Vt.) took the win for Lyndon, making just one save. Tavares recorded 17 saves in the loss for St. Joseph (Vt.).
