CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The Lyndon State College women's soccer team visited Pine Manor College Tuesday afternoon, losing the non-conference match up 3-1.
The hosts wasted little time getting on the board as Cassie Cavender gave the Gators a 1-0 lead just 2:17 into the game. The Hornets answered quickly as Shelby Sheridan (Enosburg Falls, Vt.) assisted Sarah Gerry (South Hero, Vt.) in tallying the equalizer less than a minute later. However, the score would remain 1-1 for the rest of the half as neither team was able to test the keeper with a shot on goal.
Cavender notched her second of the game in the 50th minute to give the Gators the 2-1 edge. The Gators then held the Hornets at bay while tacking on another goal in the 86th minute to finish with a 3-1 score.
Johanna Sargent (West Brookfield, Vt.) finished with four saves in net for Lyndon.
The Hornets (2-3-0, 0-0 NAC) begin North Atlantic Conference play Saturday at 2:30 p.m. against UMaine-Farmington.
