LYNDON CENTER, Vt. – North Atlantic Conference play continued for the Lyndon State College (2-7-1, 0-4-1 NAC) women's soccer team as they faced Husson University (5-5-0, 4-1-0 NAC). The Eagles rallied together a 6-0 win; however, the Hornets were able to keep the visitors scoreless in the second half.
Johanna Sargent (West Brookfield, Vt.) had a season high of 22 saves for the Hornets. Shelby Sheridan (Enosburg Falls, Vt.) recorded two shots while Rose Wilson (Marshfield, Vt.) and Chloe McFarlane (Newport, Vt.) added a shot each.
The Eagles' Leah Hibbad (Portsmouth, R.I.) and Allison Carey (Plymouth, N.H.) collected two goals apiece. Hannah Clough (Mount Vernon, Maine) and Lexi Crawford (North Bridgton, Maine) contributed a goal each.
After receiving a pass from Sydney Costa (Acushnet, Mass.), Carey drilled in her first goal of the game from the right side to start the scoring off at the 6:19 mark.
Hibbad snuck through the Hornets' defense and went one-on-one with Sargent, collecting her first goal of the game for the 2-0 lead in the 21st minute.
In the 24th minute, Costa lobbed the ball right in front of the net with Carey getting a foot on it to make the score 3-0.
Less than four minutes later, Sargent got a hand on the ball off of a shot from the Eagles' Brooke LaBelle (Ashland, Maine); however, Clough was able to capitalize on the deflection and get her lone goal of the afternoon.
Hibbad and Crawford notched in the final two goals of the game, both off of assists from Taylor Fortin (Goffstown, N.H.).
The Hornets were able to hold the Eagles scoreless in the second half sending the visitors home with the 6-0 victory.
Lyndon takes the week off and will travel to New England College on Saturday, October 8th with a 2:30 p.m. start.
Husson hosts Maine Maritime on Saturday, October 8th at 5:00 p.m.
