LYNDON CENTER, Vt. – The Lyndon State College women's soccer squad finished up their 2016-2017 season with a 4-1 loss against Norwich University at the Varsity Athletic Field.
The Hornets' Johanna Sargent (West Brookfield, Vt.) finished the match with 15 saves, while Holly Lutz (Hamburg, N.J.) had one save for the Cadets.
It wasn't until the 22:10 mark that the Cadets were able to get on the board. Jordan Kacur (Red Creek, N.Y.) tipped the ball away from a defender, then ripped a shot that hit off the gloves of Sargent and up into the top of the net.
The Cadets' second goal came off of a corner kick play. Madison Oelker (West Liberty, Ohio) tapped the ball to Ashley Carvalho (Pinellass Park, Fla.) who passed it into the keeper's box. The ball bounced along the ground to Kate Albretsen (Cotuit, Mass.) who knocked it up into the left corner.
In the 40th minute, Mehgan McMullen (Northfield, Vt.) lobbed a shot that made its way between Sargent's fingers and the crossbar, giving the Cadets the 3-0 lead at the end of the first half.
In the 72nd minute, Carvalho gave Albretsen a lead pass through the defense, setting her up with a one-on-one with Sargent. Albretsen placed a shot past Sargent into the right side of the net.
The Hornets' finished off the scoring, after a corner kick from Shelby Sheridan (Enosburg Falls, Vt.). The Cadets were unable to clear the ball as it bobbled around within the keeper's box before Chloe McFarlane (Newport, Vt.) got the final touch, sending a shot past Lutz.
Lyndon went 2-12-1 overall, and 0-8-1 in North Atlantic Conference play this season.
Norwich finished their season 3-11-2 overall, and 1-9-1 in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference.
