Plymouth, NH - Plymouth State University found the back of the net five times in the first 27 minutes and cruised to an 11-0 win over the Northern Vermont University-Lyndon women's soccer team on Saturday afternoon. The non-conference contest was the Hornets' season opener, while the Panthers move to 2-0 on the season.
Plymouth State's Kate Martin got the Panthers on the scoreboard first, taking a feed from Mallory Lloyd and finding the net just over three minutes into the contest. Four more different Panthers scored over the next 23 minutes as Plymouth took control early. Goals from Michelle Henry and Sabrina Sweeney late in the first half made it 7-0, Plymuth State at the half.
Plymouth State added four tallies in the second half to account for the final score. Lloyd, Sweeney, Sara Hicks, and Jordan Meier led the scoring with two goals apiece. Freshman Lauren Young (Danville, VT) made 19 saves in goal for Lyndon, as the Panthers fired 53 shots. The Hornets were unable to muster up any shots of their own, leading to a quiet day and a clean sheet for Panther goalkeeper Elena Register.
The Hornets will take to the road again tomorrow for a 1:00 pm kickoff at Becker College.
