Lyndonville, VT - The Lyndon State College women's tennis team dropped its final home match of the season, falling 9-0 to Plattsburgh State University in a non-conference matchup on Sunday afternoon. The loss drops the Hornets to 1-10 on the season, while the Cardinals improved to 5-4.
Plattsburgh swept all three doubles matches, 8-0. Kelcie Henn (Mastic Beach, NY) and Sierra Barrett (Beekmantown, NY) defeating the Hornets' Nichole Jones (Lisbon Falls, ME) and Savannah Jackson (Barre, VT) at 1st singles. Shari Forman (Manhasset, NY) and Katie Kratovli (Longmeadow, MA) defeated Rachel Scholfield (Mahopac, NY) and Melissa Calabro (New Canaan, CT) at 2nd doubles. Erin Wiggins (Manlius, NY) and Nadine Ciardulli (Massapequa, NY) topped Faibe Achinda (Hinesburg, VT) and Shanice Facey (Barre, VT) at 3rd doubles.
In singles play Henn defeated Jones at 1st singles and Forman defeated Jackson at 2nd singles, both by 6-0, 6-1 scores. Ciardulli bested Achinda at 4th singles and Tia Mitsoglou (Plattsburgh, NY) topped Facey at 6th singles, both by 6-0, 6-0 margins. Finally, in pro set matches, Barrett beat Scholfield 8-1 at 3rd singles and Wiggins beat Calabro 8-1 at 5th singles.
The Hornets wrap up their season with a pair of away matches this week. They play at Colby-Sawyer College on Monday and at Plymouth State University on Thursday. Both matches will start at 4:00 pm. The Cardinals are off until the State University of New York Tournament, which begins on October 14th.
