Lyndonville, VT - The Northern Vermont University-Lyndon women's tennis team hosted Castleton University in the first match of the 2019 season on Saturday. The Spartans swept all nine flights, earnig the victory in the first match for both teams.
Castleton jumped in front by capturing all three doubles matches. In first doubles, Lyndon's Emilie Dube (Bristol, CT) and Savannah Jackson (Barre, VT) dropped an 8-2 decision to the Spartans' Megan Nadler and Regina Marchese. In third doubles, Susmita Mangar (Winooski, VT) and Oo Mai Be (Winooski, VT) also fell by an 8-2 margin to the Castleton team of Alexis Curley and Grace Sharkey. Castleton swept #2 doubles, 8-0.
The Hornets were unable to turn things around in singles play. Jackson fell to Castleton's Emily Miller 6-1, 6-1 in #2 singles. Be was able to take a game off of Sharkey at #5, and the Hornets dropped the other flights in straight sets without winning a game.
The Hornets look to turn things around on Thursday when they host NVU-Johnson in a NVU President's Cup matchup. Play will begin at 4 pm at the Dudley Bell Tennis Center.
