LEICESTER, Mass. – The Lyndon State College volleyball team fell to the Hawks of Becker College Saturday, 3-0 (25-17, 25-17, 25-14).
Continuing its run of strong serving at home, the Hawks started the day with 19 aces against Lyndon State with six coming from Marissa Turner (Coventry, Mass.) and four each from Kayla Dupree (North Bergen, N.J.) and Ashley Peterson (Johnson, R.I.). In addition, Becker hit .221 while holding LSU to a .014 clip.
Turner led all players with eight kills while adding 11 digs. Dupree had seven kills and three blocks. Setter Charlene Landry (Gorham, Maine) recorded a match-high 23 assists and libero Brittney Bullis (Stafford, Va.) led all players with 12 digs.
The Hornets were led by Gwyneth Stahl's (Whitinsville, Mass.) seven kills, three assists, and three digs and Laura Drake's (Hinsdale, Mass.) eight assists and nine digs. Kelleigh Murtagh (Merrimack, N.H.) chipped in three kills and seven digs.
Lyndon pulled to within a point, 12-11, in set one, but committed an error on the next play that ignited a 6-0 Becker run that put the set out of reach. Set two was close, 15-13, until a Cheyenne Melanson (Sandown, N.H.) ace started another 6-0 Hawks run that included all four of Peterson's aces. In the third set, Turner's serve turned a 10-8 match into a 19-8 Becker lead that sealed the victory.
The Hornets travel to play Norwich University on Wednesday at 7:00pm.
