NEWTON, Mass. – The Lyndon State College women's volleyball team suffered two losses Saturday afternoon in a tri-match with Daniel Webster College, 3-0, and host Mt. Ida College, 3-0.

In the opener, Lyndon traded leads with Daniel Webster early but two straight kills from freshman Lauren McDonough (Glastonbury, Conn.) gave the Hornets a 21-18 lead late in the set. However, the Eagles responded with seven straight points to take the first set 25-21.
The Eagles were able to take an early lead in the second set and coast to a 25-14 win.
In the third set, the Hornets refused to let the Eagles get a comfortable lead as they fought back multiple times and found themselves within two as the Eagles were at set-point. The Eagles were able to come up with a clutch block to finish out the set, and the match.
McDonough tallied eight kills and a game-high 19 digs in the loss for the Hornets, while also serving three aces. Gwyneth Stahl provided 15 assists for the Hornet offense and added 14 digs.
Mt. Ida 3, Lyndon 0
In the second match, the Hornets took a quick 5-0 but the Mustangs worked back to take an 8-7 advantage before stretching the lead out and taking the first set 25-16.
The second and third set were a different story but with the same ending as both fought back and forth. The Mustangs took set two 25-21 while finishing out the match 25-20 in the third.
The Hornets received a game-high nine kills and a shared team-high of nine digs from freshman McDonough, with Stahl recording 14 assists in a losing effort. Kelleigh Murtagh (Merrimack, N.H.) added six kills and six digs, as well as two solo blocks.
The Hornets drop to 1-2 on the season and will host NHTI Wednesday night at 7:00 p.m.
