Hornets Succumb to Mariners, Chargers
CASTINE, Maine – The Lyndon State College (7-6, 1-2 NAC) women's volleyball team dropped a pair of North Atlantic Conference losses to Maine Maritime Academy (12-5, 3-0 NAC) and Colby Sawyer College (5-14, 2-1 NAC) Saturday afternoon.
Lyndon hosts Norwich University for non-conference action on Thursday, October 6th at 6:00 p.m.
GAME 1: MMA 3, Lyndon 0
The Mariners swept the Hornets 25-11, 25-19, and 25-16 in the match-up.
Lauren McDonough (Glastonbury, Conn.) led the Hornets with 12 digs, five kills and a pair of aces, and Gwyneth Stahl (Whitinsville, Mass.) added a double-double with 11 assists and 11 digs and 1 block.
Tess Clark (Spring, Texas) led the Mariners with a double-double of 13 digs and 12 kills, while teammate Gillian O'Neal (Burbank, Calif.) led the Mariners with a match-high 14 kills and added nine digs. Sydney Adams (Trumbull, Conn.) led the Mariners with 19 assists and five aces while also adding five digs.
GAME 2: Colby-Sawyer 3, Lyndon 1
The Hornets came out of the gate strong taking the first set 25-23; however, the Chargers rallied together and took the next three sets for the match 25-11, 25-14, and 25-12.
Abbey Greene (Exeter, R.I.) led the Hornets with a team-leading 14 digs and seven kills, while also tallying an ace and teammate Gwyneth Stahl (Whitinsville, Mass.) tallied 14 assists, 11 digs and two kills. Kelleigh Murtagh (Merrimack, N.H.) added six kills, eight digs, and two blocks.
Gabrielle Rodriguez led the Chargers with 11 kills and 11 digs, while also tallying five aces and a block. Courtney Murray recorded 10 kills, two assists and a dig. Caroline McCoy led the way for Colby-Sawyer with 15 digs, and Ashley Kinley recorded 12 digs.
