LYNDON CENTER, Vt. – The Lyndon State College women's volleyball team hosted Norwich University in nonconference action Thursday night at Stannard Gymnasium, falling to the Cadets 3-0 (25-23, 25-15, 25-18).
Senior Gwyneth Stahl (Whitinsville, Mass.) led the Hornets with a double-double of 11 assists and 10 kills. Fellow senior Kelleigh Murtagh (Merrimack, N.H.) added seven kills and nine digs while Faith Richard (Acushnet, Mass.) chipped in four kills and three digs.
Freshman Ashley Nau (Sunrise, Fla.) led the Cadet attack with nine kills while adding two digs, three block assists and a solo block. Katie Crane (Avon, N.Y.) controlled the offense with 15 assists and added three aces. Brianna Dawson (Katonah, N.Y.) recorded a match-high 11 digs.
The first set started out close but the Cadets were able to stretch an 8-6 lead to 18-9. However, the Hornets fought back to close the gap to 23-21. After a Lyndon attack error, the Hornets tallied two points for a 24-23 deficit but an attack from Ashley Nau gave the visitors the first set.
The second set was a different story as the Cadets cruised to a 25-15 win for the 2-0 lead.
In the third set it was the Hornets that took control, jumping out to an early 8-3 lead. The Cadets then went on a 7-1 run to take the 10-9 lead. Three straight errors from the visitors gave the lead back to Lyndon before the visitors finished out the match on a 15-6 run.
The Hornets (8-6, 1-2 NAC) host Keene State Tuesday, October 11th at 6:00 p.m.
The Cadets (4-9, 1-3 GNAC) take on St. Joseph (Conn.) at home on Monday, October 10th at 7:00 p.m.
