Lyndonville, VT - The Northern Vermont University-Lyndon volleyball team opened up the North Atlantic Conference portion of its season by hosting a conference quad match on Saturday. The Hornets and NVU-Johnson both suared off against Maine Maritime Academy and Husson University. Lyndon dropped 3-0 decisions to MMA and Husson, while Johnson fell to Husson in four sets and MMA in straight sets. Maine Maritime improved to 15-6 on the season, while Husson improved to 5-12. Johnson fell to 9-8, while the Hornets remain winless in 16 starts.
Maine Maritime 3, NVU-Lyndon 0 (25-4, 25-9, 25-5)
The Mariners recorded 29 kills and 34 service aces in rolling past the Hornets. Rachel Melampy led a balanced attack with seven kills while setter Sydney Adams recorded 20 assists and five digs. Alexis Britch (Essex Junction, VT) and Samantha Theriault (West Ossipee, NH) each had a pair of digs for Lyndon.
Husson 3, NVU-Johnson 1 (22-25, 25-12, 25-20, 25-15)
In what would turn out to be the most competitive match of the day, the Badgers prevailed in a nip and tuck first set before the Eagles rallied to take the next three sets and the match. Serena Laro led the Husson attack with nine kills while Hanna Hembrow had a double double with 29 assists and 12 digs. Adrienne Beatty posted 14 digs to lead the Eagles. For Johnson, Nikola Knapova posted 15 kills and 15 digs. Brooke Scheier had ten kills and nine digs, while Kimberly Reville and Jenna Murawski recorded 16 digs each. Julie Van Etten sidhed up 29 assists.
Maine Maritime 3, NVU-Johnson 0 (25-10, 25-17, 25-17)
The Mariners were pushed by the Badgers in the early gonig of the final two sets before eventually pulling away for the sweep. Melampy had a big match, finishig with 18 kills and seven digs. Adams led MMA with 29 assists while Maria Perez recorded 13 digs. Knapova again led the Badgers with 11 kills and seven digs, while Van Etten posted 15 assists.
Husson 3, NVU-Lyndon 0 (25-3, 25-12, 25-12)
Husson was in control from the outset against the Hornets. Hembrow posted 18 assists while Adrienne Beatty recorded ten service aces. Emily Clancy (Durham, CT) led the Hornets with three kills and three digs. Lexie Walker (Groton, CT) notched three assists, while Faith Richard (Acushnet, MA) and Kiya DeWitt (Pittsburg, NH) also finished with three digs.
The Hornets will host Norwich University in a non-conference matchup Wednedsay evening at 6:00 pm in Stannard Gymnasium.
