Hornet women's cross country opens season with 3rd place finish at Charger Invitational

New London, NH - The Northern Vermont University-Lyndon women's cross country team kicked off their 2018 season with a solid performance at the Charger Invitational host by Colby-Sawyer College.  The Hornets were led by freshman Zosia Prince (Sutton, VT) who covered the 5K course in 23:22 for 13th place overall (26 total runners).  Prince was followed by sophomore Rachal Peatman (Cambridge, VT) with a 14th place finish in 23:33 and fellow sophomore Rachel Valentine (Clarkdale, AR) in 20th place in 24:37.  Senior Alesha Donovan (Northwood, NH) in 24th place and junior Isabelle Tuggle (Norwich, VT) in 25th place completed the scoring for the Hornets for a total of 81 points.

"This was the first real extended workout of the season.  I saw a lot of good things that the women can build on." said Hornet head Coach Chris Ummer.  "Zosia and Rachal P ran well together as did Alesha and Izzy.  The ability to run as a team or with teammates in a race will be key as we approach the end of the season.  As always our focus is really on the end of the season and the NAC meet, but I saw some very good things today."

The Hornets will next be in action on September 8th when they compete at the Mariner Invitational in Belfast, ME.
